Lobed wall, Wroxall Abbey
Lobed wall, Wroxall Abbey
This is the outside of the north wall of an early 18th century walled garden, reputedly designed by Sir Christopher Wren, who acquired Wroxall "in 1713…to establish a foothold for his son and his descendants in the Warwickshire squirearchy." The south-facing compartments of the garden wall would have created favourable microclimates for cultivating tender plants. The garden is now occupied by marquees for functions.
