Whitehouse lagoon, Newtownabbey

The building of the M5 J3580 : Building the M5, near Rushpark, Whiteabbey created an artificial lagoon, between it and the Belfast – Larne railway, at what had previously been the shore of Belfast Lough. The seawater enters and leaves by culverts under the motorway. There is a car park at Whitehouse Park and a path running close to the shore. The area is a noted spot for waders feeding on the inter-tidal mud.
