NG2466 : Photogenic tractor at Waternish (1)
taken 14 years ago, 5 km NNE of Trumpan, Isle of Skye, Scotland
The tractor is a Zetor – probably a 3011, built by the Zetor Tractor Factory Company in Brno, Czech Republic between 1958 and 1966.
Zetor are still very popular especially in livestock areas. They do mainly 4x4 quite compact models which are handy to squeeze in and out of smaller buildings and work on hillsides. They were at the forefront of important innovations in the early years (like the 4 wheel drive on smaller models). The company is now owned partly by VW and has connections with John Deere. Recent models are very competent modern tractors but still with a basic ruggedness - e.g. no computers controlling things in the cab, unlike many more mainstream brands.
