SU1830 : Remains of Clarendon Palace

taken 14 years ago, near to Laverstock, Wiltshire, England

Remains of Clarendon Palace
Remains of Clarendon Palace
Largely forgotten site of a former royal palace, one of the finest king's country houses in early Plantagenet times. A particular favourite of Henry II - such historical notables as Thomas a Becket and Eleanor of Aquitaine would have been frequent visitors here. English Heritage is involved with the preservation of extensive area, although very little remains.
