TV5595 : Fresh Chalk Cliff-fall Below Belle Tout

taken 18 years ago, near to Birling Gap, East Sussex, England

Fresh Chalk Cliff-fall Below Belle Tout.
Fresh Chalk Cliff-fall Below Belle Tout.
Belle Tout hill is only half the size it was when the prehistoric hill fort on it was in use. The southern half of the camp has fallen into the sea due to waves eroding the soft chalk cliffs. Above are fresh chalk screes at the foot of the vertical cliff-face. Note the horizontal narrow bands of flint in the chalk. Flint stones can be seen embedded in the chalk rubble in the foreground. In the distance are the westernmost of the Seven Sisters.
