The stone wall leads across the summit of Carman Hill (passing through the area occupied by the remains of a fort (see
NS3779 : Carman Hill-fort: line of inner enclosure, where part of the same wall is visible). The wall leads downhill, as shown in the present photograph, towards Poachy Glen (on which, see
NS3779 : Ruins of Carman Cottage).
Beyond the far end of the wall, a clump of trees is visible; those trees are located in Poachy Glen (the valley of the Poachy Burn). Beyond them are houses in the Cordale area of Renton. Behind them, on the other side of the River Leven, is Strathleven Estate. The cluster of buildings to their right is the Vale of Leven Industrial Estate.
The new
NS3979 : Vale of Leven Academy building can be seen near the left-hand edge of the photograph. The high flats –
Link – near the right-hand edge of the photo are in Bellsmyre, and the Kilpatrick Hills fill much of the width of the skyline.
As the 1:25000 map shows, the wall crosses the summit of Carman Hill; part of its course on the other side of the hill is shown in
NS3779 : Dry-stone wall on slopes of Carman Hill.
