The Armagh Observatory was founded in 1790 by Archbishop Richard Robinson in an attempt to create a university in Armagh. It is still going strong today and is an important research facility in the UK with around 25 astronomers based here. See LinkExternal link for more information. The Armagh Planetarium H8745 : Armagh Planetarium is sited in the same grounds, but the two should not be confused.
