Elcho Doo'cot Interior
A good idea of the interior layout is given by this shot with the camera lying in the centre of the floor looking straight up: In the centre is the circular hole in the roof through which the pigeons flew in and out. Lining the circular walls are the stone roosting boxes. Birds and eggs were harvested as a valuable food source, particularly in winter. The stone lintel of the door is visible at the top of the image. Compare this with the similar doo'cot at Dirleton Castle:
