Castles of Connacht: Strongfort, Galway
Also known as Caheradangan, this restored and inhabited tower has two circular bartizans containing rooms on diagonally opposite corners. Its massive walls are over 6 feet thick at the lower level, and thicker still above. The entrance in the east wall has a thin groove for what at one time must have housed a metal portcullis.
