Farmhouse at Lougher, Co. Meath
A cluster of houses at the centre of the townland of Lougher includes this farmhouse, now uninhabited. A house and farmyard is shown here on the O.S. 1st edition 1836 though this house is possibly a bit later. In 1381, Lougher was a possession of the Augustinian priory of Llanthony Secunda in Wales, and is described as a manor with a castle surrounded by a ditch, full of water on the north side, and nearby, in a separate grange, two pigsties, a bakery, a malthouse and a dovecote. Also closeby was a small vill with tenants.
