Blocks of granite in the river bed below the ice house
Near the upper limit of the Donard Forest the ancient Silurian rocks of the lower Glen River Valley are replaced by the much younger granites of the Tertiary period. These can be well observed in the blocks in stream bed just below the Ice House, seen here at the top right of the photo.
