Battlebridge Basin, named as Horsfall Basin on Greenwoods Map of London 1827 is an offshoot of Regents Canal and was used originally for the transshipment of heavy goods in bulk from large ocean-going vessels on the Thames to further into London and to other parts of the country. It ceased to be used for commercial boat traffic in the 1950s and the wharves and warehouses have been transformed or replaced by upmarket residential properties or cultural centres such as the London Canal Museum and Kings Place.
This photograph was taken from the terrace of the Rotunda bar in Kings Place, built on the site of Belmont Wharf looking across to what was Albert Wharf.
The terrace closes at 10.00pm in case the residents of the flats opposite should be disturbed.
TQ3083 : King's Cross station An interesting picture from an interesting vantage point. You weren't there by accident as I believe there's been no unofficial access for many, many years. The foreground detailing is excellent.
