Lock No. 46 on the Royal Canal in Cloondara, Co. Longford
The final lock and the end of the line for the Royal Canal.
As I write, the canal is on the verge of being fully reopened all the way from here to the Liffey in Dublin city 145km away. It was officially closed in 1961, although it’s said that no boat has made it the entire distance since 1955.
I have now submitted at least one geograph for every one of the 181 grid square it passes through (including some pesky ones with only a few square metres!) You can see a slideshow of them all here Link or view them on a map here Link (remember to switch pages as it can only show 50 at a time).
