Youghal lighthouse
Youghal lighthouse
The building of Youghal lighthouse, at the entrance to Youghal harbour, was completed in 1849 but a light was not exhibited until 1852. It became unmanned in 1939 and was converted to electricity in 1964. When the lighthouse was built Youghal was a busy commercial harbour. It is still open for shipping but on a much reduced scale.
