Sligo: Benbulbin. Summit Triangulation Pillar
The summit of Benbulbin is featureless, with the exception of the trig point. However, you will not be disappointed by the views from here. With good visibility you have a 360 degree panorama. To the North and Northwest across Donegal Bay lie the Blue Stacks and Slieve League, (its cliffs are the sixth highest in Europe) also to the North is Streedagh Point where the Spanish Armada famously came to grief in 1592 with the loss of hundreds of lives. To the East is Truskmore with its TV mast which is the highest point in Sligo, to the Southwest is Knocknarea, crowned by a massive cairn. To the South, Lough Gill, the Curlew Mountains and northern shores of Co. Mayo can be seen. Always remember that in most cases you are walking over somebody's land. So don't forget to always ask permission from the landowner before beginning. Summit elevation: 526 metres (1726 feet) Discovery Series Map No.16
