Hoverfly on Grass-of-parnassus
Grass-of-parnassus (Parnassia palustris) is not a grass, but is closer to the saxifrages. It is quite common in Scotland on damp moorland or marshy ground. The flower smells faintly of honey and this with the veining of the petals attracts insect pollinators like this hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus).
