NX7858 : Upper Torglass Wood

taken 14 years ago, near to Gelston, Dumfries And Galloway, Scotland

Upper Torglass Wood
Upper Torglass Wood
This part of Torglass wood is open to grazing, but retains its ancient woodland character, with massive oak 'stools' as well as ash and hazel. The steeper side of Torglass Hill to the Southwest is one of the least disturbed bits of ancient woodland I know. There is no sign of any 'management' for at least fifty years.
