NS3578 : Honeysuckle berries

taken 14 years ago, near to Cardross, Argyll And Bute, Scotland

Honeysuckle berries
Honeysuckle berries
The berries of honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum) were abundant on the sunlit side of this section of NS3578 : Carman Road (in that photo, the same section of road is viewed in the opposite direction).

The berries may be mildly poisonous, with saponins thought to be responsible for the resulting symptoms when the berries are eaten in quantity; in any case, it would be best to follow the advice given in J4580 : Honeysuckle berries near Bangor, and leave them; other creatures will enjoy them without ill effects: TQ2995 : Honeysuckle Berries.
