Remains of the Admiralty Jetty
The jetty was abandoned by the Admiralty in the late 1980s. It was used for several years by the US Navy to service their submarine base at Holy Loch, across the Firth of Clyde at Dunoon. The concrete building was home to the US Navy Shore Patrol, a sort of Military Police who took care of any rowdy behaviour by sailors who had crossed the Clyde on one of the "Liberty Vessels" which called here regularly. The structure to the right was a long bus shelter which offered protection from the elements for sailors waiting to depart.

I recall using this jetty as a child in the mid 1960s to attend a 4th July picnic at the US base, courtesy of an American neighbour who served there.

Gourock Pier is to the left, Kilcreggan on the Rosneath Peninsula is in the distance behind the jetty.
