'Lode Star' at the Steam Museum, Swindon
This view from inside the famed 'Steam' museum shows in the foreground quite an historic locomotive, 'Lode Star' numbered 4003. It was built in 1907 to a design by the legendary George Jackson Churchward erstwhile Chief Mechanical Engineer to the Great Western Railway who lived, worked and died for his beloved railway
Link The locomotive is the only remaining example of its type. It was seminal in that it led, in 1923, to the perhaps better-known 'Castle' class of locomotive. 'Steam' isn't as big as the NMR in York but, having visited the two, the former remains my favourite. Their website:
