St. Ciaran's Bush
St. Ciaran's Bush
A whitethorn bush draped with items of clothing in various stages of rot. The bush supposedly cures illness and answers prayers, such that when a piece of clothing is hung on the bush, once it rots away, the wearer's prayer will be answered. When the adjacent track (to the left in this photo) needed to be widened to make a two-lane road, the bush couldn't be interfered with, so the road was re-routed to the right. The bush is named after St. Ciaran (Kieran), a contemporary of St. Patrick, who founded a nearby monestery.
