Lode Watermill

Lode Watermill is a preserved flour mill in the grounds of the National Trust's Anglesey Abbey estate. There has been a mill recorded here since the 1085 Domesday book. The present mill dates to 1745, its wheel from 1868.
In the 1900s when foreign flour imports plus steam roller mills TM3056 : Deben Mill, Wickham Market made the flour milling non-viable. Cement mixing kept the mill going until the late 1920s. There were 6 lime kilns and a tramway to a pit or quarry. It was transformed back to a flour mill for preservation in the 1970s. Now it works most days and sells flour.
