Peckforton Mere is one of the Cheshire Meres which are small shallow lakes occupying hollows in the sculpted glacial surface formed by glacial meltwater at the end of the last Ice Age c 12,000 years ago. The site of an ancient (?Iron Age) settlement lies close-by.
