taken 19 years ago, near to Two Bridges, Devon, England

The Proving Mortar, Powdermills
The Proving Mortar, Powdermills
The Proving Mortar situated just off the lane to "The Powdermills". The miniature cannon was used to test the explosive power of the gunpowder manufactured at this isolated spot. Powder was graded according to how far the mortar could fire a cannon ball. Some joker has placed a grass "wick" in the firing hole at the rear!
