ST5590 : New Severn Bridge from the Old

New Severn Bridge from the Old
New Severn Bridge from the Old
This picture was taken from the old Severn Bridge, which was opened by the Queen in 1966. The second crossing was completed in 1996 to provide additional capacity to the overloaded first crossing. The two bridges are somewhat different in design: the first bridge is a suspension bridge, but the second is cable stayed, which is somewhat more stable in windy conditions.
