Ardvreck Castle, Loch Assynt
Ardvreck Castle was the 15th Century seat of the MacLeods of Assynt. Its most famous inhabitant was James Graham, Marquis of Montrose, who was imprisoned here in 1650 after his defeat at the Battle of Carbisdale. In 1795 the castle was struck by lightning and almost destroyed.
