A view of the connecting rod and the drum. The two levers rotate causing a rocking of the bar which then controls the Cornish valves and thus steam flows into the cylinder. The even bigger Markham can just be seen in the other engine room in the back. It's hard to think trees were growing here a few years ago.
Pleasley Colliery

Pleasley colliery is a preserved coal mine of the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire concealed coalfield. It lies roughly two miles east of the exposed coalfield.

On site are two steam winders Link Link two headstocks Link as well as other mining items Link. The site is still under restoration and there is an open day every September.
The area around the colliery has been landscaped providing rich limestone grasslands, lakes and woodlands.
