Vauxhall Bridge sculptures
Opened in 1906, this five-arch steel bridge is not the first on this site. It is 80 feet wide and 809 feet long and was designed by Sir Maurice Fitzmaurice. It was the first of the London bridges to carry trams over the Thames.
The piers are decorated by larger than life-sized bronze statues by Frederick Pomeroy and Alfred Drury. These female figures represent the Arts and Sciences, including Agriculture, Architecture, Engineering and Pottery on the upstream side and Local Government, Education, the Fine Arts and Astronomy on the downstream side.
