Inscription reads,"This tower was erected by James Nield Sykes of Field Head Lindley for the benefit of the inhabitants of his native village in 1902".
Sadly Acre Mills is to be demolished (the only exception being the main multi-storey block), in an NHS scheme which is (I believe) to replace some facilities currently in the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary opposite.
