See J3371 : The Lyric Theatre, Belfast (26). The building, now externally complete, seen from the Stranmillis Embankment. Media reports indicate that it has been used for rehearsals. This is how it looked exactly one year ago J3371 : The "Lyric" Theatre, Belfast (10).
For the record the architects are O’Donnell & Tuomey who describe the building as “The Lyric stands amongst trees on sloping ground beside the Lagan. Seen from the river, it is an object building in parkland, a luminous, translucent presence. On Ridgeway Street, the Lyric holds one corner of a continuous system of brick streets, the last building in the grid. The Lyric belongs to the street and the river. It is anchored to its site, built in angular Belfast brick, and it is floating in the Lagan haze, with flowing spaces for public circulation. It is embedded, permanent, here to stay and it is dynamic, fluid, open to change.”

“With nearly four times the floor space than in the original theatre, the Lyric’s new home will consist of a 394 seat main auditorium, a 150 seat studio theatre, a rehearsal room, extensive river-front foyers and bar, dressing rooms, technical facilities and office accommodation. The increased space and dedicated education facilities will enable the Lyric to provide significantly enhanced opportunities for children from all areas and social backgrounds to have access to the arts. The new theatre will also allow the Lyric to build upon its established role as a centre of regional excellence and position itself as an international class theatre company based in Northern Ireland”. The architects are O’Donnell & Tuomey.
