A CIE 141 class locomotive brings the 15.00 Cork - Tralee passenger train into Banteer. The line between Mallow and Tralee was built by the Killarney Junction Railway and opened in stages from 1853 to 1859. Banteer was the junction for a line to Newmarket, opened in 1889 and closed in 1963.
