Hutton's Unconformity
Hutton's Unconformity
James Hutton is a famous Scottish geologist (and farmer) who was one of the founding fathers of the science. James visited the Island of Arran in 1787 and at this spot noted his first unconformity. The Dalradian phyllites to the right are dipping at completely the wrong angle to the calcareous rock to the left. Thus there is time gap between the two.
