A Wildfire on Millstone Mountain, Newcastle
This was an overnight fire on Millstone Mountain a foothill of Slieve Donard. It was attended by crews from Newcastle's NIFRS station and was brought under control by about 08.00hrs, Saturday, 30th April 2011. It was one of scores of wildfires attended by the NIFRS during the recent dry period. Later the same day a very serious fire broke out in the upper Annalong Valley area and it became necessary to bring in the PSNI helicopter to look for walkers who might have been caught by the wildfire. Fire crews from a wide area were called in to tackle the blaze.
