This building, in Queen’s Square, carries the numbers 35&37. It sits between the site of the former “Lifeboat “ bar J3474 : The Lifeboat bar, Belfast and “McHugh’s” J3474 : McHughs, Belfast (right). After many years of dereliction it was almost entirely rebuilt and, until very recently, was occupied by the business which has now moved “around the corner” to “The Boat” J3474 : "The Boat", Belfast. There is an application for planning permission “0472/F 35-41 Queens Square, Belfast Demolition of existing 3 storey building and erection of new 14 storey building comprising 75No. small unit/ studio apartments”.

A site on the southern side of Queen’s Square. There is the following planning permission (18 November 2013) “Z/2011/0472/F Demolition of existing 3 storey building and erection of new 16 storey building comprising 60No. apartments with ancilliary [sic] facilities and commercial use at ground and first floor. (Amended Scheme) 35-41 Queens Square Belfast BT1 3FG”.
The 1901 street directory shows “35, 37. McCusker, M., wine merchant & family grocer 39. Sutton & Co., General, Inland, Continental & Foreign Carriers, Agents for Wells, Fargo & Co., New York; R. Nolan, Manager Custom House Chambers 41. Albert Club”.
The 1960 edition “35-37. Kirk, S., Ltd., wine and spirit merchants
39-41. Vacant ground”.
