The Royal canal at Hill of Down
The Royal canal at Hill of Down
The Royal canal, connecting Dublin to the Shannon, was built between 1790 and 1817. It fell into disuse and closed (officially) in 1961. It has now been restored but when this shot was taken in 1981 it was disused and under threat. N6547 : The Royal Canal shows the same view (towards Dublin) in 2008.
