The locomotive is a replica of Robert Stephenson's 1830 locomotive "Planet", the original having been built for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. It is normally exhibited at Manchester's Science and Industry Museum but was visiting the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for the Gala to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the opening of the Whitby to Pickering Railway.
