Shaline Oil Retort
Shaline Oil Retort
The shales on the beach were found to contain high amounts of oil in 1916, the Shaline company was founded in 1924. This retort, which baked the shale releasing the oil and gas was the first of its kind. Due to the cost the venture failed. Today Shale is in the spotlight again due to the fracking process.
