Castles of Leinster: Kilteel, Kildare
This tower with its circular stair turret was once part of a preceptory of the Knights Hospitallers whose ruins are nearby. Two of its five storeys are vaulted, and there is a gateway passage adjoining it seen on the right. After its suppression in 1541 the preceptory was granted to Sir John Alen, then subsequently to Richard Talbot, Earl of Tyrconnell in the late C17. Kilteel is about 8 km east of Naas.
