Fields, pylons and chimneys, Islandmagee
The view, from the Brown’s Bay Road D4500 : The Brown's Bay Road, Islandmagee (5), across the Islandmagee countryside towards Ballylumford, Larne Lough (hidden in the dip) and Larne.
There are five pylons and a telecoms mast looking not too conspicuous on a dull day.
The background includes some well known man-made features of east Antrim – the Riverdale flats, Larne (left D3902 : Riverdale flats, Larne (1)) and eight chimneys of Ballylumford power stations Link.
Officially described by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency as comprising “a series of ridges which run north-south, culminating at sheer basalt cliffs along the eastern coastline.” Irrespective of the technical jargon Islandmagee has pleasant scenery.
The presence of the Ballylumford power stations, at the north western end of Islandmagee, means that pylons and overhead power lines are a prominent feature of the landscape.
