The following inscription is included,

"THIS WAS ONCE A THRIVING HARBOUR WITH SAILING AND STEAM SHIPS COMING FROM EUROPE AND THE AMERICAS. TIMBER, COAL, COKE, IRON, SLATES, WINE AND CHINA CLAY WERE IMPORTED WHILE WOOL, LEATHER AND SALTED FISH WERE EXPORTED DURING THE GREAT FAMINE, EMIGRANTS LEFT FROM HERE FOR THE NEW WORLD.

INIS SAIMER

PARTHALON AND HIS FOLLOWERS, REPUTED TO BE THE FIRST SETTLERS IN IRELAND, LANDED HERE CIRCA 2676 B.C. THE ISLAND WAS NAMED AFTER SAIMER, HIS WIFE'S HOUND WHICH PARTHALON KILLED IN A FIT OF JEALOUS RAGE
SAMAIR OR SAMER WAS ALSO AN ANCIENT IRISH NAME FOR THE RIVER ERNE, MEANING 'RIVER OF THE MORNING STAR'"
