The vast Guinness Brewery complex was for many years served by an extensive narrow gauge industrial railway, mainly built in the 1870's. Steam power was used until the 1940's, when the steam locomotives were replaced by diesels. Gradually use of the system declined, and it was finally closed on the 5th August 1975. The gauge was only one foot ten inches, and a lot of the tracks remain, including this section outside the visitor entrance to the Guinness Storehouse Visitor Centre.
