St Oliver Plunkett, an aristocrat born at nearby Loughcrew, was the Archbishop of Armagh and Catholic Primate of All Ireland. He was charged with treason and, because of the reluctance of an all-Protestant Irish jury to convict him, was taken to London to be tried. Found guilty, he was executed at Tyburn in 1681. Link
