The mine 'Shop' and wheel pit at Holmes Linn, this was one of the shafts sunk to expedite the construction of the 'Blackett Level'. An ambitious project to drive a level from Allendale up the Dale for 7 miles. Begun in 1855 it only reached 4.7 miles when driving was halted at the end of the century.
