Deer stalking seat on the edge of Poundhill Inclosure, New Forest
This deer stalking seat is on the edge of Poundhill Inclosure, overlooking Poundhill Heath. It is for professional deer stalkers who will select and shoot deer as part of the Forestry Commission's deer population management programme. There just aren't the wolves to do it the old fashioned way. Interesting fact of the grid-square: this stile is one of the few I've seen on the open Forest - it's much more usual to have a wicket gate. It looks like its construction was contemporary with the deer seat.
