Landing mackerel, Bangor
The pelagic trawler 'Stefanie-M' Link
landing mackerel at the Eisenhower Pier in Bangor. When caught the fish is stored in chilled seawater tanks rather than packed in ice; rather than being unloaded in boxes, the fish can then be sucked out of the hold through a large pipe and loaded directly into the lorry on the pier. This type of trailer used is normally associated with the transportation of bulk liquids but is also clearly suitable for fish. Pelagic trawlers use suction pipes to both catch and land fish - see Link
for a YouTube video of a pump in action at sea. See also J5082 : Landing the catch, Bangor and J5082 : Landing mackerel, Bangor.
