J3271 : Frog, Belfast

taken 13 years ago, 3 km from Belfast, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland

Frog, Belfast
Frog, Belfast
A fairly large Common Frog (Rana temporaria) seen sitting on a wall at Marlborough Park in Belfast. He was very happy to pose for photographs but, concerned for his welfare (he was close to the road), I moved him into some nearby undergrowth. According to "Reptiles and Amphibians of the UK" LinkExternal link the Common Frog will emerge "from hibernation in late February & spawning usually takes place in early March; occasionally the frogs will emerge sooner and spawn as early as January."
