In a frivolous frame of mind, I did wonder whether Bilston had its own Captain Mainwaring active here during the 1940s.
However, the drill hall (Grade II listed) was built in 1901 for the 6th Staffordshire Regiment of the Territorial Army, who used it until 1936. A variant of the royal coat of arms still decorates the two storey building, which is now a very successful music venue accommodating up to seven hundred people.

Noddy's Bar is named after Noddy (It's Ch-r-i-i-i-i-isstmas!) Holder, the front man of Wolverhampton most celebrated rock band, Slade. He and Lord Bilston (then just Dennis Turner MP) officially opened the Robin 2 Club in 1998, then returned in 2008 to open the adjacent Robin 2 Hotel.
