Effigy of a de Cerne knight - church of St James, Draycot Cerne
One of two important ancient monuments in the church to members of the de Cerne family. This was long thought to represent the late C13 full length recumbent effigy of Philip de Cerne, but recent research suggests it is probably that of Henry de Cerne (d.1296). He is portrayed in the usual way, cross-legged, in a niche under a cinquefoiled canopy in full armour, possibly a crusader (although late), his feet resting on a lion, his head on crossed cushions.
