Black Lake, Delamere: open water
Black Lake, Delamere: open water
The Black Lake SSSI shows a very early stage in the development of a schwingmoor basin fen, a type of quaking bog. It is part of the Meres and Mosses Ramsar site. This view shows an area of acidic, nutrient-poor open water, which has yet to be colonised by the floating vegetation shown in SJ5370 : Black Lake, Delamere: developing schwingmoor & SJ5370 : Black Lake, Delamere: detail of floating vegetation
