Ashford Mill, Ashford Carbonell
This fine mill dates back to around 1797 when the road bridge was completed. It was the second attempt and the first unsuccessful and unfinished mill is nearby. It hasn't run in anger for many years but the wheel still turns. The wheel is breast shot and turned two sets of stones. There is also a disused water turbine that drove a generator and a pump. The mill's owner (right) is talking to my colleague Nigel). The tailrace from the wheel is on the right and the fish pass is in the left-hand arch. This is arranged to oxygenate the water and facilitates the passage of salmon. The fine weir is just seen beyond.
This was visited as part of National Mills Weekend 2012.
National Mills Weekend 2012

National Mills Weekend is an annual celebration of the UK's milling heritage. The event is organised by the Mills Section of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.
The 2012 dates were the 12th and 13th May. Over 450 buildings were open to visitors meaning many to choose from. They ranged from fully working wind and water mills to under restoration or rarely open buildings.
